Kentuck ORV Trail

USDA Forest Service, Talladega Ranger District

Directions: Take I-20 to Hwy 21, go south on 21 (towards Talledega). After ~4-5 miles Go left (east) onto county road 135. After ~3-4 miles Go right (south) onto Kentuck Rd. After ~1-2 miles Go right (west) onto 643. Parking for the Kentuck ORV trails should be ~2 miles on the left.

Description: About 1.5 hours from Atlanta with 22 miles of trails. Kentuck is a nice ORV area. There are a series of fast trails with frequent turns and jumps combined with steep up/down hills as well as a number of stream crossings. (Two-way travel so watch out for fast oncoming traffic!)

Notes: Strongly suggested one call ahead to verify the facility is open as its known to close periodically at the direction of the USFS. Also suggest avoiding during hunting seasons.

Flint Creek Multi-Use Trail

Difficulty: 1 - 2

Location: Bankhead National Forest (west of Hartselle, AL, near Falkville, AL, about 55 miles southwest of HSV)

UPDATE The trail was closed to repair illegal riding and is due to re-open August 1, 2008.

Re-opening (pdf)
An official map (pdf)

Directions: From Alabama Highway 157 turn south on Danville Rd (CR 41), 4 miles from Highway 157 there is a left bend in the road with a dirt road going west (Forest Service road 249, also known as Leola Road), turn onto 249. At 3.7 miles you will pass Center church, the parking area is 0.8 miles past the church on the the North side of the dirt road. Don't worry about the fact a sign near Danville Road says Flint Creek Multiuse trail is about 4 miles ahead, then about 4 miles later another sign just like it doesn't mention the trail. You didn't pass it, its another 100 yards ahead. (Genius At Work.)
